Volunteers from the district staff the shopfront, and most of what is below happens there. If you are not sure what to ask for, ask anyway.
Food and everyday help
Fresh Food Fridays
More than forty hampers of essential food every Friday for a gold coin donation, sourced through Foodbank Australia and SecondBite. Each comes with a weekly catch-up call.
Referrals
If things are not going great and you are not sure who to ask, we can point you to the right government or non-government organisation.
Welfare checks
If you are feeling lonely we can match you with one of our volunteers for weekly chats over the phone, or when you drop in.
Grants
We can help you keep up to date with any grants particular to your unique circumstances.
After a disaster, and for a bad week
Flood and disaster help
We have donated goods on hand. Ring us or call in.
Time out
Call in for a listening ear, a coffee and a chat, or use our library and client lounge.
Free internet and computers
For people affected by disasters, and anyone isolated who needs access to technology and printing: free use of equipment at our office.
Laundry
A free washing machine is available at head office.
And more
A bush library with no borrowing timelines for people made homeless by bushfire or otherwise affected by disaster, with musical instruments and games. A tag and test service on Thursdays and Fridays, for a small fee.
The SES Community Volunteer Programme, run with the Northern Area and Wingham SES Unit, gives the streets of Wingham wardens and a central communicator, so the Mid Coast is kept informed when it matters.
